Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth is currently conducting the 2011-2012 CTY Talent Search for grades 6, 7 and 8.  The purpose of this search is to identify, assess, and recognize the abilities of the highly able students.  Please read the following letters with the pertinent information. Montgomery College Continuing Education Youth Programs KIDS COLLEGE

Montgomery College is offering enrichment courses for students K-12.  Please review the following information.  Course brochures and registration forms are available in the Counseling Office, and on line at www.montgomerycollege.edu/youth

The counseling office has a few brochures available to our students.

Programs fill quickly, please register as soon as possible. The deadline for receiving registrations is one week before the specific class is scheduled to begin.

High School Magnet Information for 8th Grade students

Parent Information Meetings 2011: High School Programs

Attention parents/guardians of 8th grade students,

The application deadline for our MCPS High School Magnet Programs is Monday, November 7, 2011. These are exciting opportunities for interesting and challenging experiences in high school. The three Magnet School Programs that your child is eligible for are:

·         Montgomery Blair High School – Science/Mathematics/Computer Science Program

Eligibility: Student must be in Algebra I or higher

·         Richard Montgomery High School – International  Baccalaureate Diploma Program

Eligibility: Student must be in Algebra I or higher AND have 2 years of a foreign language (if you are a native speaker of Spanish, French, or Chinese, you may also be eligible)

·         Poolesville High School – Global Ecology House Program

Eligibility: Student must be in Algebra I or higher

An electronic copy of the Magnet School Program application form can be found here. Also hard copies of the form can be found in the counseling office or in Ms. Lynn’s classroom, Room 1147.

Be aware that if your child applies to a Magnet School Program, they are required to take a mandatory test on Saturday, December 3, 2011. Also, teacher recommendations are due by Monday, December 5, 2011. Please provide teachers with the necessary recommendation forms at least two weeks before they are due. Quality recommendations require quality time.

Parent Information sessions about each program can be found here.  It is recommended that you arrive at least 30 minutes early to reserve a seat. Also, application workshops are offered on October 27, 2011 at Quince Orchard High School and November 3, 2011 at Wheaton High School at 7:00 PM.

GT/LD Parent Network

The GT/LD Parent Network presents a monthly speaker series each year that is actually already underway. They plan, coordinate, and execute the events, with participation from MCPS staff when appropriate. They also include private practitioners and experts from the field. These events are open to staff, free of charge, and parents (members get in free, others are asked for a $15 donation).
