Cabin John Middle School Students are
February 19 (Potomac, MD) – Winners of the 2003-2004 Reflections Program were announced by Montgomery County Council PTA. Two Cabin John Middle School students are among the fifteen middle school division winning entries selected from across Montgomery County. Cabin John eight grader Polly G., age 13 (North Potomac, MD) won for her literature entry “Snow Day”. Seventh grade student Alice H., age 12, (Rockville, MD) is a winner in the visual arts category for her oil on canvas painting entitled “Happy Panda.” These students have already won at the Cabin John Middle School level, and their entries will go on to be judged at the State level with results announced in mid-March. Other students, whose entries previously won at the Cabin John Middle School level, were Erin M., (Potomac, MD) who submitted two literature entries, and Grace G. who submitted a visual arts entry. This year winning entries at the county level represented 16 schools across Montgomery County, from Kindergarten through grade 12. Students created works in literature, visual arts, musical composition, and photography to interpret this year’s theme “I am really happy when…” The theme is selected, each year, from suggestions made by school children. National level winners have a chance to win scholarships of $750. Reflections is a cultural arts program of the national PTA and was established in 1969. Since that time, more than 10 million students across the U.S. have participated in Reflections. Although Reflections follows a “contest” format, winning is not the emphasis and all students receive certificates of participation. |
