Math at Burnt Mills Elementary
Burnt Mills Elementary School supports the Montgomery County Public Schools Seven Keys to College Readiness through a Math Acceleration Program. Placement recommendations for acceleration go through a four-step process in order to select a child.
- Analyzing math unit assessment data for the on and above grade indicators
- Previous teacher recommendation
- Academic performance within the current placement
- MSA math performance on the mathematics content specified in the Maryland Content Standards
Students will receive instruction and assessments a whole grade-level above their current placement. All homework and assessments will be handled by your child’s math teacher. Parent support is critical in helping your child be successful in our Math Acceleration Program. Gaps may exist; therefore, the teacher will provide differentiated small group instruction in order to support potential gaps, but home support is also a key component. Instruction in the Math Acceleration Program will occur in English only for math 6 & 7.
