Hard Work Cafe
Renaissance Hard Work Cafe cards are distributed
each quarter to students who have demonstrated independent learning skills
throughout the previous marking period. Students who earn the grade of
“independent” in each of the Learning Skill categories on their report card
receive a card that entitles them to take part in Hard Work Cafe
activities. Activities include the opportunity to eat with staff in the
Hard Work Cafe on Fridays.
Students who eat in the Hard Work cafe
are also able to help themselves to popcorn from the school's popcorn
machine. Students who earn the grade of “Independent” in all but one
Learning Skill category receive a card that entitles them to “popcorn on
the playground”. Popcorn is offered to all students with a Renaissance card
one time each marking period.
Each Hard Work Cafe card is valid for
nine weeks. At the end of each nine week period the cards expire. New cards
of a different color are issued to those students who qualify.
Students who receive Hard Work Cafe
cards have their
names posted on the Renaissance bulletin board as well as listed on the Brooke Grove ES website. return to top

The Red Apple Award is given by staff
members who feel a student has performed a service to the community. Any
act that benefits the school as a whole, or any staff member in the course
of their duty, is considered to be service to the community.
Red Apples are kept by staff members and
awarded as indicated. Staff members write the student’s name on the front
and include their name (staff member) on the back. Red Apples are redeemed
each Friday in the counselor’s office at 2:40pm by the SGAC members. Once
collected they are placed on the apple tree in the front hallway. Upon the
award of three (cumulative) Apple Awards the student
is presented with a McDonald's certificate good for a free meal. return to top
Good Character
Award
Good Character Award recipients are
nominated by staff and students to recognize students who have demonstrated
“good” character. Good character is defined by the six pillars of character
that are the primary component of the Character Counts! program. The six
pillars include responsibility, respect, trustworthiness, fairness,
citizenship and caring. Good Character Award nomination forms are kept near
the counselor's door.
Students and staff are asked to complete
one form for each act of character they wish to recognize. Once the form is
completed the form should be returned to the counselor’s mailbox (located on
the counselor’s door).
Good Character Awards are announced each
week during lunch. Recipients are asked to come forward and
receive their Certificate of Good Character and a Outback Steakhouse certificate
good for one free kid’s meal at the Outback Steakhouse located on Georgia Avenue. Good Character Award
recipients also have their names added to the Good Character Award roster
located in the front hallway.return to top
