Zero Zeros Tip of the Week
Stephen Covy said, “Begin with the end in mind” What is your end of quarter 3? Honor roll? Straight A’s? If you know what you want, find your pathway to get there. This is your Zero, Zero’s tip of the week. 

Soccer
Soccer season is quickly approaching. Any 7th & 8th grade boys & girls interested in trying out for soccer this Spring will need to attend the interest meeting. The interest meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 7th in the gym from 3 – 4:30. Important paperwork will be distributed. Tryout procedures & criteria will also be discussed. 

SSL Opportunity
SSL Opportunities: Galway ES is having their monthly Family Market TODAY, February 3. With the help of student volunteers to set up and distribute the food, the Family Market will be successful. Did you know you could earn SSL hours by attending PTSA meetings? Tuesday, February 14th from 6:30-7:30 the PTSA will hold their next meeting in the media center. This is a great way to have your student voice heard AND earn SSL 

Black History Month Scavenger Hunt
Each day during the month of February we will have a fact about a notable person of African descent who contributed to society. Most of their contributions impact your daily lives today. Be sure to keep track of the of the black history facts, there will be a black history month scavenger hunt. You may pick up a form from your World Studies teacher or from Ms. Bader in room 33. 

Black History Fact of the Day
Henry Brown created what is now known as a "strongbox", a metal container to store money and important papers that could be locked with a key in 1886. 

Yearbook
Congratulations to Ms. Carbine and the 2016 Yearbook club for winning second place in the American Scholastic Press Association annual yearbook competition for their 2016 Yearbook. The yearbook show a growing knowledge in the fields of writing, photography, and page design and contains elements and section of a memorable yearbook that will be treasured for years to come.

 Peer 2 Peer tutoring
Today is Peer 2 Peer tutoring. If you signed up to stay, we will see you this afternoon. If you did not sign up, please remember to sign up next week.

 Black History Fact of the Day
Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist, humanitarian, and an armed scout and spy for the United States Army during the American Civil War. Over eleven years, Tubman rescued some 70 slaves in about 13 expeditions to Southern Maryland. 

 Souperbowl
Staff, please plan on attending our Souperbowl. it is Friday, Friday, February 3 starting during 3rd period. Please sign up to bring something. The sign up sheet is located in the work room.

Today marks the beginning of our celebration of Black History Month. Carter Godwin Woodson pioneered the celebration of “Negro History Week.” The month of February was chosen in honor of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, who were both born in that month. It was later expanded to Black History Month in 1976.

Born in Baltimore in 1731, Benjamin Banneker was an author, surveyor, naturalist, and farmer. He was largely self taught and was best known for being part of a group that surveyed the border of Washington, D.C.
