Each year, fifth grade students take a state science assessment. In previous years, this was the Science MSA. Now, all fifth graders will take the Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA). Students will take this test online. This assessment will test knowledge of scientific processes, data analysis, and instructional content. It will include reading passages, videos, charts, diagrams, and simulations.

This year is a field test for the assessment and scores will not be reported. The assessment consists of four sessions. Each session is sixty minutes in length. There is no opt out option on this assessment. Fifth graders should bring headphones or ear buds on the days they test. We will have a few extra headphones available for students who do not have their own. The students will test on the following days and times:

MISA Test Dates

On testing days, please ensure your student arrives to school on time. Students cannot enter a test once it has started. Any children who arrive late will have to sit in the main office until their class has finished testing. They will have to be pulled out from class to make up the test at a later time. Please also ensure your child comes to school well rested and having eaten a good breakfast in order to help him or her show their best work.
