The It's Academic team is a group of students at Blake High School who compete in academic tournaments styled after the WRC-TV quiz show "It's Academic," now in its 46th season.  Tournaments are hosted nearly every weekend by various high schools, in the spirit of friendly competition and in preparation for the TV quiz show.  Tournaments also allow more students to become involved with the activity, since only three students may be on the TV show, but many tournaments allow several teams of four students from each school to participate.

In order to have the most fun at tournaments, students need to practice answering questions, working on their knowledge base and improving their speed.  At Blake High School, practices are held every day during lunch in room A-209.  The team also practices on Fridays after school, in room A-209.

When it comes time for our television appearance to be taped, tryouts are held in order to determine the top three players at the time.  This encourages everyone to try their hardest- the team present at the first taping doesn't become complacent since their spot on the next show is not guaranteed, and the players who did not make the first taping's team has incentive to work hard so they can be part of the TV team at the next taping.  Thus Blake is fielding its best three players at the time for the televised tournament.

In the first round game for the 2002-2003 season, sophomore Clare Boyle, senior Casey Retterer, and junior Adam Harsha are joined by (l to r) coaches Joe Caulfield, Deanna Swartzfager, and principal Carole Goodman.
