2008 LEAD SUMMER BUSINESS INSTITUTE is for high achieving 11th graders who wish to pursue careers in business.  Juniors are encouraged to apply for this July program before February 1, 2008.  LEAD is committed to influencing high school students from diverse cultures who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance & leadership skills.  330 are selected from a national pool of applicants.  Minimum qualifications:  3.0 GPA, 100 on the PSAT or 1000 on the SAT (cr. reading & math combined), U.S. citizens or permanent residents, community service & extracurricular activities will be considered.  To find out more about this program:  www.leadprogram.org or call 215-753-2490.

Vanderbilt University PAVE Program - This is a six-week unique program for rising juniors & seniors to explore a science, engineering, medical or technology based career in a risk free environment and ease the transition from high school to college. Participants will experience college life while being exposed to a multidisciplinary curriculum. PRINCETON UNIVERSITY's 10-DAY ALL EXPENSES PAID SUMMER JOURNALISM program will be held on campus in August for sophomore & juniors who have under-resourced financial backgrounds.  To apply you must meet the following qualifications:  minimum GPA 3.5 (on 4.0 scale); demonstrated interest in journalism; designed for families with incomes less than $45,000/yr.  Applications must be postmarked by February 20, 2008.  More information and the application materials are available on:  www.princeton.edu~sjp.

FREE DIGITAL MEDIA TRAINING OPPORTUNITY for At-Risk Youth - June 23 - July 3, 2008 OR July 21 - August 1, 2008 - VisArts at Rockville is offering a two-week "Digital Media Training Program" for at-risk H.S. youth this summer.  Students will have the opportunity to work with seasoned professionals in the fields of video, audio production and animation to create an artistic multimedia project.  Ten students will be accepted for each session.  The program is funded by VisArts, costing only $15 per student for the entire training.  If this fee is a financial hardship, contact Tim Hampton, 301-315-8200 or digitallab@visartscenter.org.  Students must demonstrate financial need or other risk factors to qualify.  Application due:   June 7 and can be submitted online or downloaded at www.visartscenter.org/application.php.  Students will be notified by June 12 if accepted. UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY (WEST POINT) Summer Leadership Program offers two sessions: June 7-13 and June 14-20.  This highly competitive leadership seminar provides outstanding H.S. juniors the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the academic, physical and leadership programs at a service academy.  Only 800 students will be invited nationwide who meet these guidelines:  top fifth of H.S. class; pursuing a college prep curriculum; strong PSAT scores; demonstrated leadership potential (e.g. elected to office, extracurricular & organized athletic activities).  Cost: $325  Students accepted on rolling admissions process, but the application must be received prior to March 31, 2008.  To apply or learn more:  http://admissions.usma.edu.
