ORIENTATION FOR MONTGOMERY COLLEGE FRESHMEN- "HOW TO SUCCEED IN SEPTEMBER"

NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY FILM CAMP

HOWARD UNIVERSITY SUMMER JOURNALISM PROGRAM FOR MULTICULTURAL STUDENTS
Multicultural students currently enrolled in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades are invited to apply for a scholarship to participate in an intensive two-week residential program for newspaper journalism to be held June 23-July 3, 2003 at Howard Univesity. Upcoming juniors and seniors who are uncertain about a college major and would like to learn more about business and/or technology can apply to earn college credit that will transfer to just about abnyu college or university. MCPS ANNOUNCES SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Application packets are available in the Career Center for MCPS Summer Internships. The program runs for five weeks for current 10th, 11th and 12th grade students and requires teacher recommendations, transcript, resume, cover letter and a copy of the summer school registration form. The cost for the program is $405 for an 8 hour internship and $235 for the four hour program. Deadline to register is May 1st.

UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Young Scholars Program runs from July 13-August 1, and allows high school students to enrollin a college course, earn three college credits, and experience college life. BUTTERFLY DOCENTS NEEDED FOR BROOKSIDE GARDENS
Students ages 16 and up can earn student service learning credits volunteering for Brookside Gardens' Wings of Fancy" exhibit from May through September. Docents will educate the public on the butterfly life cycle and will insure that USDA regulations are followed. Volunteers must commit 10 - 2 1/2 hour shifts between mid-May and late September in a work environment that consists of a butterfly habitat of moderate humidity and warm temperatures. NASA / CAPITOL COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM FOR MINORITY STUDENTS
The NASA/PREP is a free, competitive, six week program designed to strengthen the academic, study, and interpersonal skills of minority 11th and 12th grade students interested in a Bachelor of Science degree in astronautical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or software engineering. Students are expected to live in the dormitories during the week. Qualified applicants should have a minimum 2.8 GPA and 950 SAT (500+ Math). UPWARD BOUND SUMMER MATH AND SCIENCE PROGRAM AT UMBC
The Regional Upward bound program is a federally funded, six-week, residential program with follow-up activities during the school year designed to introduce high school students to math and science careers. Each student receives a $90 stipend upon completion of the program. All expenses are paid by the Department of Education. WEST POINT SUMMER INVITATIONAL ACADEMIC WORKSHOP FOR JUNIORS: JUNE 7-13
The U.S. Military Academy with host a summer workshop for outstanding current high school juniors to expose them to cadet life at the United States Military Academy. Participants will learn about the unique structure of the academic program at a service academy and although attendance does not in any way obligate students to consider the Academy, it does serve the role of opening a candidate file. For consideration, juniors should be in the top 20% of their class, have PSAT scores of at least 62 verbal or 62 Math, and have demonstrated leadership potential in athletic and extracurricular activities. PROJECT AIM: U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY SUMMER PROGRAM
Project AIM invites current juniors who are U.S. citizens age 15 years and up and who rank in the top 25% of their class to apply for Project AIM, a six day program conducted the last week in July at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. Two hundred qualified young people from across the country are guests of the Academy where they live the routine of new cadets from reveille to retreat. Students must have correctable vision to 20/20 and can't be color blind. A transcript and PSAT or SAT scores must accompany the application. Contact Harry E. ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY EXPLORE YOUR FUTURE SUMMMER PROGRAM
RIT announces a week-long career exploration and transition program for deaf and hard-of-hearing high school juniors to learn about careers in entgineering, information technology, arts, sciences, business and the helping professions. Students can attend one of two sessions that run between July 19th and August 1, 2003. The program cost is $650. Transportation is the student's responsibility. JOHNS HOPKINS SUMMER "HEADS UP" PROGRAM IN ENGINEERING
The Heads Up summer program offers seven weeks of college-credit engineering courses for high school juniors and seniors at the Johns Hopkins Shady Grove campus. Engineering courses will be offered in Environmental Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer/Electrical Engineering, JAVA, etc. Arts and Sciences courses might include Biotechnology, Bioethics, science writing, Film and media special effects technology, etc. IBoth paid and unpaid nternship opportunities will also be available to students enrolled in classes.
