Section 6.1 – Solid Shapes

 

Isometric drawing – one in which the horizontal lines of an object are represented by lines that form 30° angles with the horizontal line in the picture.

 

Isometric dot paper – a type of graph paper (with dots) that can be helpful in drawing solid shapes such as a cube.

 

Orthographic projection – a view of an object in which points of the object are “projected” onto the picture along with the perpendicular lines to the picture plane.

Unit square (1 x 1) – area is in square units

Unit cube (1 x 1 x 1) – volume (inside) is in cubic units

 

Surface Area – the total area of the exposed surfaces of an object.
