2008-09
To All Blake Parents, Teachers, Students
& Alumni,
Welcome to the 2008-2009 school
year. In 2007-2008 the James Hubert Blake High School
and the PTSA did some terrific things. This year your
PTSA Executive Board hopes to make even more progress in the
area of student advocacy. Last year’s 9th Grade
Parents Peer Group blazed a trail by meeting regularly with
the administration to discuss the needs of their children.
Your officers are committed to expanding their efforts to
the other year groups. While WE represent ALL parents, students,
and teachers to the administration the creation of more focused
constituencies only further refines the level of advocacy
we can achieve. We are fortunate to have three of the four
Executive Officers returning. With a year of experience
behind us, we hope to keep the ball rolling. We can’t
do it without you!
This year we have also been
given the special opportunity to help Blake High School prepare
for their accreditation review in 2009-2010. The PTSA
has been asked to find parents interested in joining committees
that include teachers, students, and staff to review ALL Blake
activities, programs, policies, and facilities. This
should give those involved a unique look into everything
that makes Blake great, and a hand in growing that greatness
into the future!
As we continue to celebrate the schools Tenth Anniversary,
your PTSA will be hosting various events that build on the
traditions established by all those who have gone before.
I am asking you, your family, your neighbors, and the businesses
in the area to become part of these efforts. By joining and
participating in the PTSA you will become a partner in all
we do - ultimately influencing the success of all students
here at Blake.
Last year the PTSA made a concerted
effort to embrace each element within our community.
We are successfully encouraged the S - Students to become
more active. With greater emphasis on T- Teacher participation
we communicated with those who directly influence our children
is so many ways. By challenging every P - Parent to
give at least three hours of their time volunteering we provided
much needed support to the school. This year we have
a special challenge, because many of our most dedicated volunteers
are the parents of seniors. I am asking that every underclassman’s
parent step forward and get involved. We need your help,
but more importantly, all of our students need your help.
Please join the next generation of great Blake Parents; Involved,
Concerned, Selfless, and Dedicated. By getting involved
this year you will be prepared to take over for those who
will be moving on at the end of 2008-2009.
We hope that you will
be able to join us at our first official meeting, September
16th to hear some of our ideas, and to offer your
own. Some of the things that are happening include,
Back to School Night, Comedy Night, College Night, Silent
Auction, Race for a Dream, and After Prom. Chairpersons and
committee members are still needed. If you have other ideas
we are anxious to hear them.
I know that many of you have
schedules that require your time be spent elsewhere.
Please consider making at least three hours volunteering this
year your goal. I would love to see three hours per
month, but I know it is hard to find the time. Our
kids deserve it. Please also support our
DIRECT APPEAL Campaign. We never ask your children to
sell things to friends and relatives, but we do ask for a
tax deductible donation to fund all the great programs that
we do.

PTSA President
