Blake High School Assistant Principal Named 2008 Advanced Placement
Outstanding Teacher.

It has been announced that James Hubert Blake High School Assistant
Principal Joseph Du Boyce has been honored by The College Board as
their 2008 Advanced Placement Program® Outstanding Teacher Award,
Middle States Region. The College Board is the Princeton, New Jersey
based organization that coordinates the nationally recognized Advanced
Placement High School Program

Mr. Du Boyce was selected for this award because of the dynamic and
significant impact he has had on the AP program at Blake High School
as both a teacher and now as the administrator serving as AP
coordinator. As a direct result of Mr. Du Boyce's efforts, Blake's
Advanced Placement enrollment has increased from 740 AP tests taken in
2005 to 936 in 2007. In November of 2007, Blake High School rose 43
places in the Jay Matthews Regional Advanced Placement Challenge
Index, the largest increase of any high school in Montgomery County.
Mr. DuBoyce has also spearheaded the Advanced Placement certification
process for teachers at Blake.

In his nomination for this award, Blake's principal Mrs. Carole
Goodman said……" By creating incentives and through persistence and
support for both students and teachers, Joe Du Boyce has
single-handedly energized and boosted the AP program at James Hubert
Blake High School."

Mr. DuBoyce is a 21-year Montgomery County Public School educator.
Previously he taught social studies at both Blake and Magruder High
Schools and was the Department Chair of Social Studies at Blake.

The Middle State Regional Office of the College Board will present the
award to Mr. Du Boyce at the Regional Forum Awards Luncheon on
February 14th at the Sheraton Atlantic City Hotel.

Pennies for Patients Challenge
This February, Blake HS will be participating in the Pennies for Patients High School Challenge sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This program challenges Montgomery County schools to various components, asking students to raise awareness and funds for the society through school-wide and community events. The winning high school receives a party package that will be used for the Post-Prom. The prize includes unlimited Dominos pizza, $350 in Best Buy door prizes (our choice), and a DJ for the event.
Donations can be made directly to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Blake will receive credit if donations are made through this link:http://www.active.com/donate/synca/BlakeHS

Varsity wrestling team

Congratulations to the Varsity wrestling team.  Last Saturday afternoon at Paint Branch HS, the Bengals opened up with a 37-0 lead against consortium rival Paint Branch and went on to dominate the Panthers by the score of 43-33.  The victory marks the first time Blake has beaten Paint Branch in wrestling in school history!  The highlight of the match was when Rasheim Smith beat two-time defending county and regional champion Danny Lethbridge, by the score of 8 to 2.  Congratulations to all Blake wrestlers, Coach Pinsky and his coaching staff!

RACE FOR A DREAM

Volunteers are needed for the 4th Annual Race for a Dream. Unlike in
years past, the money raised will be going solely to benefit the After
Prom, an all-night fun-filled evening loaded with exciting games,
activities, food, and music.

Please consider volunteering for any of the following committees:

Marketing/Publicity/T-shirts

Race Course

Awards and Prizes

Nurse/Emergency

Decorations

Parking Logistics

Clean Up Team

This is a great way to get involved in the Blake community while
helping to support a safe post-Prom environment for our children.

For more information about this event, please contact Lisa Lomke at
stoneg8mom@yahoo.com or by phone at (301) 649-3563, evenings.

Blake HS Stage Company nominated for presentation at 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe

A Committee of directors, college representatives, and theatre artists has nominated the Blake HS Stage Company to present a production of our choice at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe one of the world's most renowned theatre/performance festivals. The Stage Company would perform 3 - 5 times in a selected venue alongside professional productions like the Kirov Ballet as well as local United Kingdom performance troupes like the Oxford Shakespeare Players. The Festival normally begins around August 14 and goes for ten days until late August. This is quite an honor --- and totally unsolicited by the Stage Company. Mr. Michael D'Anna is considering the possibilities of attending.
