Blake High School Forensics Team Rising to the Top in Montgomery County Forensics League
James Hubert Blake High School Forensics team took Third Place in a MCPS competition on Saturday February 24, which moved the team into 5 th Place overall for the year, in only their second year of competition.
In Readers Theatre, Blake took first place in two out of three divisions with Sean McComas, Jessica Baker and Johnny Weissgerber finishing with the highest point total and taking first place for David Ives’ TIME FLIES, and KathrynHamilton and Jonny Weissgerber’s GLASS MENAGERIE finished first in their competitive round.
In the individual categories Sean McComas and Johnny Weissgerber in Humorous Interpretation and Jessica Baker in the categories of Children’s Literature and Prose Interpretation placed into the Finals.
The Blake Forensics Team, under the direction of teacher Mike D’Anna, is a division of the Blake Stage Company comprised of 20 students who want to improve their public speaking skills. There are three qualifying MCPS Forensics competitions through out the year that allow students to compete in a wide array of speaking categories: informative, persuasive and extemporaneous speech, duet acting and readers’ theatre, as well as five individual categories: poetry, children’s literature, prose, dramatic and humorous interpretation.
The Finals Meet is scheduled for Friday March 16 th 3:30-9:00 pm and Saturday March 17 th 8:00am- 8:00
