BLAKE’S ALICIA BETANCOURT SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

The winners of the first Alicia Betancourt Prize for Excellence in the Arts was awarded to three James Hubert Blake High School seniors. Emily Toy is the recipient of an $8000 award, Hannah Sohn, first runner-up, $4000; and Allison Williams, second runner-up, $2000.

Blake’s 2nd Annual 5k Run/3K Walk “Race for a Dream” was held on May 7, 2006 in memory of Alicia Betancourt who would have been a graduating senior this year. On October 24, 2004 her life was taken in a car accident. The scholarships provide recognition to deserving female seniors pursuing collegiate studies in visual arts or dance. This year’s “Race for a Dream” had over 400 participants and raised $20,000 for the scholarship fund.
