CHRISTOPHER BERRY NAMED MARYLAND 2006-2006 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR
Christopher Berry, Assistant Principal at James Hubert Blake High School in Montgomery County was named Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) Assistant Principal of the Year.
The MASSP in conjunction with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) recognizes outstanding middle level and high school assistant principals who have demonstrated success in leadership, curriculum and personalization.
Mr. Berry has been in education for twenty years, the last three serving as an assistant principal at James Hubert Blake High School. As an assistant principal he worked on the creation of Blake’s school improvement plan and has been a leader in the development of grant proposals which have resulted in over $800,000 for the implementation of Blake’s smaller learning community program, including the ninth grade learning academy. When asked about the award Mr. Berry said “I’m honored to represent many many Assistant Principals in Montgomery County and the State who work on behalf of students’ everyday.”
Carole Goodman, principal at Blake stated that, “His vision, knowledge of instruction, and ability to organize, coordinate, and communicate the big picture, is nothing short of remarkable. He is highly professional, collaborative and is an expert in using multiple sources of data in meaningful ways to guide instructional decisions.”
Mr. Berry will continue on for consideration as the National Association of Secondary School Principals’ Assistant Principal of the Year. Each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia will select an assistant principal to represent their state. State winners will be honored at an awards banquet in Washington, DC. From these winners, three finalists are selected to become eligible for the National Assistant Principal of the Year award, which will be announced at the annual convention February 24 th in Las Vegas. |
