High School 101:

A Transition to 9th Grade at Blake HS

An Experience Incoming 9th Grade Students

Should Not Miss!

 

                HIGH SCHOOL 101 is designed to help incoming Blake students transition to high school.  The two-week program will prepare students for the academic and social challenges of the high school environment.  Students receive daily preparation in reading and math skills and participate in workshops that foster connections between students and Blake staff.  Activities provide students with an opportunity for goal setting and self-inventory in preparation for a successful high school experience.

 

EMPHASIS      In addition to specific academic skill development, activities focus on:

·         Orientation to the Blake building and staff  

·         Support towards completion of summer reading/math assignments

·         Study strategies

·         Teambuilding

·         Goal setting

·         Career exploration

·         Peer mentoring

·         Field trips and guest speakers

 

[NOTE:  Sessions offered through High School 101 are not for credit.]

 

DATES            SESSION A – June 30 – July 11, 2008   (No class on Friday, July 4th)

                       SESSION B –  July 14 – July 25, 2008

 

DAILY SCHEDULE      8:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday

 

ELIGIBILITY    Students currently in 8th grade who will be attending James H. Blake High School

                          in the fall of 2008 are eligible to participate in this program.

 

TRANSPORTATION     School bus transportation will be available (pick-up and drop-off)

                                     at Northeast Consortium elementary, middle and high school sites.

 

FEES       Cost is $100.00 per two-week session.   Tuition assistance is available to eligible participants.

ENROLLMENT:  Enrollment in each session is limited.  Applications will be accepted on a

                         first-come, first-served basis until available spaces are filled.
