SGA  offers a "FREE ZUMBA CLASS" on Wednesday, January 25th at 3:00 pm in the Cafeteria,  open to all students, staff and parents.  See Blake's website for more information.  Zumba is a low/high impact aerobic dance class that burns 400 to 1,000 calories in an hour!

Students interested in attending the Theatre Festival at Blake High School on January 20th must see Mr. D’Anna this week to sign-up for the event. There is no cost to attend and participate in this event!

Students who participated in AIDA are reminded that they should see the callboard this week about rehearsals and sign-up for our highlight performance on January 20th.
The Young Republican Club meets today to discuss the requirement of a high school diploma for potential employees is in question.

The Physical Education 3v3 basketball championship games will be played today during lunch in the main gym.  Come watch the competition start at 11:10!
The Acting Company will present scenes from Neil Simon’s Tony-Award-winning comedy, BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS, this Thursday and Friday, in the Black Box Theater at 7:30 pm. Follow the hilarious growth of a young teen as he copes with sexual awakening, a family trying to hold together in terrible times, and  eating cabbage and liver for dinner!  Admission is $5

Girls interested in playing Softball this spring, must see Coach Garlick in B223 for information about Sunday evening workouts at Sandy Springs Friends School. This is a great opportunity for anyone who hopes to make the team.

The last Forensics Qualifying Meet is January 14th. All Forensics Members or students who want to participate in this meet are required to attend meetings after school in the Black Box Theater all week, at 2:20. Sign-ups for c ategories you will compete in are now due to Mr. D’Anna

In Career Center News, Kids' Chance of Maryland, Inc., provides scholarships to help collegebound children of catastrophically injured or deceased workers achieve their education goals and seeks scholarship applications for the 2012 academic year.  See Mrs. Moore for more details.

If you are a college bound senior of Greek descent in good academic standing, see Mrs. Moore regarding a special scholarship opportunity.

Collegebound seniors who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have parents who are employed by the federal government should see Mrs. Moore about a special scholarship opportunity.

A reminder to college-bound seniors: scholarship applications are processed the same way college applications are handled.  Bring the stamped, pre-addressed envelope to the registrar 15 days in advance of the deadline with all necessary paperwork inside.  The registrar will add the transcript, test scores and counselor recommendation as needed and drop it in the mail. Seniors who plan to attend Montgomery College in the fall must complete the admissions application now and turn it in to Mrs. Moore.  Students who apply before Feb. 15 are eligible for the $25 fee waiver and will be registered to take the Accuplacer test here at Blake on March 2.  MC application forms can be found online or in the Career Center....don't delay!

MCPS is sponsoring an HBCU College Fair on February 15 from 6-8 pm at Blair High School.  Several colleges will be offering on-the-spot admissions interview for interested seniors.  All grades are encouraged to attend, however.  More details can be found in the Career Center.

The application deadlines for the MC Scholars Program and Macklin Business Institute are fast approaching.   Seniors must have everything submitted to Montgomery College by January 20, 2012!

ACT-SO is the NAACP Academic, Cultural, Technological, & Scientific Olympics
It is a competition where high school students of African descent can compete for scholarships and prizes in the following categories: Science, Math, Business, Humanities, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts.

It’s time for seniors to begin the Free Application for Federal Student Aid online.  Be sure to apply for a PIN for yourself and your parent first.  The official website is www.fafsa.gov.  You will need to complete the FAFSA before March 1st to be considered for state aid.  Visit the Career Center for more information.
