Creating original opera is like putting together a puzzle. Everyone has an important role and everyone contributes equally to its success. Our company is made of thirty-two fifth grade students, who are putting time and effort into creating an original opera. Each company member has a job such as a writer, composer, set designer, carpenter, electrician, makeup artist, costume designer, performer, manager or public relations officer.

Creating Original Opera has been a program of the Education Department of the Metropolitan Opera Guild of New York. It is currently in its twenty-third year of training in the elementary and middle schools, and in its ninth year at Beverly Farms. The program is made possible by the financial support from the GE Fund, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, the Montgomery County Education Foundation, the Washington National Opera, Dr. Jerry Weast, and Dr. Lillian Pailen.
