CODE RED |
 |
 |
Code Red is defined as an alert status indicating imminent danger exists to all staff and students. During a Code Red, staff and students must remain within their classroom or within a secured area. If students are in the hallways, they must quickly move to the nearest classroom or to a secure area, remain quiet and follow staff instructions. Staff should secure their immediate area and account for students. Students should also be kept away from doors and windows. |
CODE BLUE |
 |
 |
This is a term used to alert staff that an emergency/crisis exists at or near an MCPS facility. It requires all students to be accounted for and under supervision. Administrators may activate the On-Site Emergency Team (OSET) and set up a command post when appropriate.

How can you find out about school closings, delayed openings, and early closings?
School Closings:
Announcement will be made as soon as the decision has been made.
Delayed Openings:
When conditions dictate, a 2-hour delayed opening may be instituted. If this is the case, the announcement will be made by 6:00 a.m. and will be announced over the same media as listed above. In these cases, Bethesda Elementary will open at 10:30 a.m., the late bell will ring at 10:45 a.m., and classes will begin at 10:50 a.m.
Morning activities, other activities that begin before 10:30 a.m., as well as field trips will be canceled for that day.
Early Closings:
This determination is made by 11:00 a.m. and schools will be notified through the Emergency Computer Message System. Weather conditions that develop during the morning may cause an early dismissal, 2 1/2 hours earlier that regular school closing time. In these cases, Bethesda Elementary will close at 12:30 p.m. In such an event, lunch will be provided and students will be transported home via their regular p.m. routes. Also in these cases, ALL afternoon activities which are held in the school building will be canceled. Again, this information will be announced over the same media as listed above.
