Black-eyed Susan Reading Program
Our students participate in the Black-eyed
Susan Book Award Process. The Black-eyed Susan Award is named for the
State Flower of Maryland and has been given in several categories every
year since 1992. The purpose of this award is to promote literacy and
lifelong reading habits by encouraging students to read quality, contemporary
literature. The picture book nominees are listed on the charts below.
When students read 8 of the 15 titles, they can vote for their favorite.
These votes are tallied statewide to determine the winner. Authors, illustratorsand
publishers recognize this award as an honor bestowed by Maryland students.
