After-school Technology Program

Implemented by Anita Mazzocchi and James Herbold
Feb. 6, March 5, 12, 19, April 2 and 8th.

By the end of the six week tech program, the students learned to ...

  • log on a computer and open the Power point application
  • read a short passage and write an answer to a simple prompt
  • contribute at least one idea to a group project
  • correctly type and spell at least one complete sentence
  • change text appearance by color, size, or font
  • insert one new slide and a picture in a Power point presentation
  • evaluate self and group presentations

These goals were accomplished by having the children ....

  • Use Pair-It Books (a software program with a collection of read-aloud books)
  • Work in groups on the same book
  • Use Power Point to explain story elements

At the end of the six weeks we asked the students what they liked the most from the program. This is what the students said…

  • I liked when we designed and made the people out of the computers.
  • I liked when we learned to typed.
  • I liked when we did the background and pictures.
  • I liked when we made the writing different.
  • I liked when we wrote words and the picture came out (clip art).
  • I liked when we read the books on the computer.
  • I liked when we underlined the words.
