Reading Together with Grandreaders

Grandreaders (part of Interages Agency) is an intergenerational literacy program for children in second grade. Participating children need extra support in order to increase their English Language skills and/or to bring their reading comprehension skills up to grade level. Volunteers meet with the same student weekly throughout the year, to enhance the reading/language experience through a variety of reading and language art activities.

At the end of the school year, Bel Pre ES, holds a Reading Together celebration luncheon and ice cream party. Grandreaders are given photos of themselves with their students, a letter of thank you, and certificates for volunteering for this program. Students share with their Grandreaders their school portfolio that they have accumulated since Pre-K.
