Our Mission Statement
The mission of Bel Pre Elementary School in partnership with family and community is to enable each child to develop the knowledge and competencies necessary for success.
Bel Pre Elementary is a premier primary school embracing the Baldrige Philosophy. Bel Pre School exemplifies all that is proposed in the MCPS Policy on Early Childhood Education. Classrooms are developmental in nature, allowing students to manipulate, construct and experiment with instructional materials for the development of physical, cognitive, and social domains. Development of positive self-esteem is essential and directly affects students' learning. At Bel Pre, we nurture students' self-esteem by providing experiences of success and promoting a climate of trust and affection. We are very proud of our school. We feel we provide a climate which is highly conducive to learning. We have a highly skilled group of very hard working persons who value each child and provide opportunities to make each student successful.
Our reading program, under the leadership of Reading Specialist Beverly Belin, embraces the developmental needs of children while providing a balanced literacy program for all children. Our desire is to provide skills and understanding of reading that contributes to children becoming life-long readers. Children are instructed at a differentiated level depending on skill, and all children are exposed to higher order thinking and reading skills. In order to promote a love of reading, several programs are institutionalized at Bel Pre. Every month, children bring home a reading calendar which notes the books read during the month and a special prize is given to children who return finished calendars at the end of the month. Additionally, there is a reading assembly to "kick off" the year-long reading calendars as well as popular events such as Literacy Night, Character Night and I Love to Read Week. Our students love to participate in these activities while developing a true love of the written word. Bel Pre Elementary contains Grades Pre K through 2nd grade and is paired with Strathmore Elementary which contains Grades three through five. The schools are within a mile of each other.
