School Management Team Notes/September 2006

It’s been a very busy first few weeks of school.  Second graders are learning how to choose a “just right” book and practicing several reading strategies that help them understand stories.  We will begin our MCPS reading assessments the week of September 18th.  Students are also learning how to write personal narratives.  In math we are working with a hundreds chart to help us with pattern recognition and place value.  Our first science unit is “balancing and weighing.”  Students are learning how balance is affected by the amount of weight, the position of the weight, and the position of the fulcrum.  We are off to a great start in all areas of second grade!
