School Managment Team Notes/ September 2006
The kindergartens are enjoying the all day kindergarten program. In reading/language arts, we are discussing and reading about signs in our environment. We have observed red and yellow signs outside of our school on our sign walks. On the walk through Belmont, we found many EXIT signs. Weekly, we are introduced to two letter friends. The kindergartners learn the names of the letters and their corresponding sounds. We are giving several reading/literacy assessments this month. In Math, the kindergartners are learning about shapes, position words, and sorting objects by attributes (size, shape, color and/or thickness). We are using one to one correspondence to organize and display data with tallies, bar graphs, and pictographs. In social studies/science,we are discussing the characteristics of Zoo animals. A trip to the National Zoo is scheduled in October.
