Student Achievement Committee

2007-2008 CHAIR

David Schardt, dschardt@cspinet.org

ANNOUNCEMENTS

MENTORS TRAINING SESSION
For those interested in mentoring a 9th grader this year, an additional training session has been scheduled for Thursday October 11th from 9:00 to 10:00 am at BCC. If you cannot make this session but would still like to mentor, another time can be arranged. Contact Program Coordinator Deborah Newman at 301-529-0702 or email her at Deborah_Newman@mcpsmd.org.

BCC parents and others in the community mentor BCC 9th graders who are at risk of failing to complete high school. Mentors meet with their students every week for an hour, usually after school. Although each relationship is different, mentors help their students by providing advice; access to people, information, and opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them; and advocacy to help them obtain the resources or the recognition they need.
