New Students & Families Welcome
Picnic – Tuesday August 19th, 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Lynnbrook
Park
No matter how near or far you have come (Westland
MS or Timbuktu!), and no matter which grade you are joining, we
would like to welcome you to the B-CC Community by inviting you
to a BYOP (Bring Your Own Picnic) welcome event on Tuesday August
19th, 6.30pm to 8.30pm at Lynnbrook Park Rec Center, 8008 Newdale
Road, Bethesda, MD 20814. For new students, this will be a great
opportunity to meet other new students in your grade and find
a welcome ambassador who can show you around the school over the
first week; this event will also be a great way for new parents
to make connections and ask lots of questions. There is a large
field at Lynnbrook Park, as well as a baseball diamond and tennis
courts, so please bring balls and rackets etc. For further information,
please contact Laura Elsey (202-730-6749) or Sarah Beck (301-949-9619).

SPONSORS
NEEDED FOR 2008-2009 STUDENT DIRECTORY
Each year the PTSA puts together a student directory
that is distributed at no charge to every student
and staff member in the school. The Directory has been
sponsored for years by businesses in the B-CC
community that are provided with space in the
Directory to share information about their business.
The 2007-2008 Directory had over 50 sponsors, most
of whom have been doing this for years. As many of you
have noted, the sponsors have the added privilege of
serving as a resource on BCCnet when their services
are requested. RESERVATIONS are being taken today! Families
of B-CC students can also make a contribution under one
of 4 SPONSOR categories and have your name listed.
I also hope this e-mail will reach those of you who
have been tempted to share you business ventures on
BCCnet, but can't because of the BCCnet guidelines.
The Directory gives you a perfect long term
marketing opportunity that reaches the 1600+ B-CC families and
staff members.
Thanks for your attention and support!

CONGRATULATIONS SUSAN KITT!
At last week’s B-CC Awards Ceremony, Susan received the
2008 Nancy Suniewick award. Here’s what was said:
“Since 2000, the Nancy Suniewick Award for outstanding
B-CC HS PTSA service has been given annually to a PTSA member
who has made an extraordinary impact on the B-CC High School community.
The award was named for B-CC parent, Nancy Suniewick, who served
as PTSA president and cluster coordinator, who led the fight to
obtain state and county money for B-CC HS’s renovation,
and who was one of the leaders in 1995 who worked to jumpstart
B-CC’s return to its current place as one of the nation’s
premiere high schools.
Anyone who has worked beside Susan Kitt knows why she is this
year’s award recipient. Since her two daughters were in
Bethesda Elementary School, she has worked with administrators,
teachers, and fellow parents to make their schools the best they
can be. She co-chaired the Renovation Committee at BE and fought
hard to made sure the new school met the students needs (and had
enough classrooms). She served on the PTA Executive Committee
there, at Westland, and at B-CC, where she was PTSA President
for this year and last. She is also a Board Member of the B-CC
Educational Foundation. This year, she served as the leader of
the parent delegation of the School Improvement Plan Committee,
which arranged focus group discussions to ensure that parents
of struggling students were clearly heard.
We are proud to present the 2008 Nancy Suniewick award to Susan
Kitt.”
Delightedly, Nancy Leopold

new2bcc - NEW LISTSERVE FOR NEW
& INTERNATIONAL FAMILIES
There is a new email group, called "new2bcc," specifically
for new and
international families who would like to trade support and information.
The group, set up through yahoogroups just as bccnet is, is easy
to join. Just send a blank email to:
_new2bcc-subscribe@yahoogroups.com_
(mailto:new2bcc-subscribe@yahoogroups.com) .
Then you will get an email back with instructions on how to join.
The group is sponsored by the Welcome Committee and the international
Connections Committee. If you've had a rough transition (and who
hasn't?) or if you experienced arriving last year or the year
before and would like to help those who are now dealing with the
transition to a new school, new county, new state or even new
country, please join us!
Sincerely,
Francesca Kelly

PAY STUDENT CLASS FEES AND MORE
AT THE B-CC ONLINE STORE
If you haven't gotten around to paying your student's class fees
yet, now is a great time to get on the B-CC Online Store and take
care of it. While at the store, you can now join the PTSA and
make additional donations to the PTSA as well. You can also support
After-Prom, Sports Boosters, the B-CC Educational Foundation,
the music, art or drama programs, and make a contribution to the
B-CC Community Scholarship Fund. You can even purchase a commemorative
brick for the B-CC courtyard.
What would a store be without apparel? The Online Store has that
as well - hats, jackets, shirts, shorts and even B-CC polar fleece
blankets. Now is the time to explore the store and take advantage
of this wonderful one stop shopping. It is really easy. Go the
B-CC website at and click on the B-CC hat icon on the left side.
Make sure you have your students ID number for processing their
class fees and a credit card and in a few minutes you will be
done without the need of writing multiple checks.
As a reminder, the PTSA will be mailing the additional copy of
the directory to parent members shortly after the directories
are received from the printer next week. Let me urge you to take
care of your membership now. There will only be one bulk mailing
and after that, directories will need to be picked up at school.
Susan Kitt
PTSA President

eScript RECYCLING - PRINTER CARTRIDGES
& CELL PHONES
Welcome back everyone to another exciting year at B-CC! The PTSA
is once again continuing the eScrip Recycling Program. This program
is free and provides a convenient way to collect laser and inkjet
toners and cartridges, and used cell phones while raising funds
for our school.
Here's a reminder of how the program works: a collection bin,
clearly marked and accessible during school hours, is located
just to your left when you enter the main school office. You can
drop off your recyclable cell phones, toners and cartridges whenever
it is convenient for you. These items are then collected and mailed
to eScrip Recycling who then deposits funds into our group's account.
Did you know that every second of the day, nine ink cartridges
are thrown away? Help us turn this waste into cash. Not only is
this an easy way to raise funds, it also teaches our students
valuable lessons about the variety of materials that can be recycled.
PLEASE, I do have one request. There are certain items that eScrip
Recycling will not accept. PLEASE DO NOT drop off colored ink,
remanufactured, or unmarked or unlabeled cartridges and toners.
This program can be very successful with the help of the entire
B-CC community. Thank you for your help in recycling.

REGISTER YOUR GIANT AND SAFEWAY
CARDS!!!
Please stop by our table at Back to School night and give us your
card numbers to register. This is something that MUST BE DONE
EVERY YEAR!! If you haven’t already renewed your card PLEASE
go to the following websites and do it now. Last year B-CC made
almost $5,000 from Giant and $3,000 from Safeway. All you do is
register your bonuscards and use them when you shop. The stores
do the rest and send B-CC the check(s) periodically. I will be
happy to register or renew your card with the Giant program if
you send me the 12 digit number from the back of your card. I
am also able to sign up your safeway card (11 digit number) for
eScrip if this is the first time you are doing it. If you are
renewing you must go to the site and follow the directions.
