We Hear You Loud
and Clear…and Thank You!
Setting:
B-CC Auditorium, Stage
Time: Fall 2008, probably October
Scene: B-CC student doing a sound check
for the upcoming Fall Musical. B-CC Director,
Aaron Taylor and B-CC Technical Magician,
Jeff Kenton, standing near the sound board
with B-CC stage crew members
Click.
“Ahem, is it on?” the student
murmurs, looking up to the back of the auditorium
towards the crowd at the Sound Board
“Yes,
we can hear you loud and clear!” the
student sound manager shouts. “Test
it.”
“Little
Shop, Little Shop of Horrors. Little Shop,
Little Shop of Terror…” the
student actor sings and then stops, looking
for a technical thumbs-up.
“Perfect
and awesome!” are shouted alternately
by crew members at the Board.
“Now
we’ve got great sound,” Kenton
says grinning at Taylor. They both nod their
heads. Both are thinking, “What a
relief!” Both are thinking, “Okay,
next up, we have to do…..”
The above scenario, or something
like it, will probably take place soon THANKS
to the many B-CC parents, students and friends
who began raising funds last spring to add
a new set of mid-level microphones for use
by the B-CC Theater Arts Department.
In just five months, our B-CC
family contributed $5,000 towards the purchase
of ten new microphones for the Department.
We appreciate your generosity!
As we told you last spring,
B-CC’s 2007 musical, Beauty and
the Beast, met with critical acclaim,
but the only “sour note” in
an otherwise stellar review in the Washington
Post was our erratic sound system.
B-CC Drama Booster parents met with B-CC
Theater staff and determined that new microphones
(mid-level quality, not the most expensive)
were desperately needed!
We asked for your
assistance in the “Give Our Kids a
Voice!” microphone fundraising campaign
and the B-CC Theater Arts family and many
supporters sent us money towards the effort.
That’s great news. While
we’re grateful and very excited, we
still need additional funds. We needed 10
mics, received money for five, but went
ahead and purchased 10 anyway! We felt it
was critical to the students, and to the
success of our fall musical, that we have
the technology in place to produce another
“stellar” performance (without
the erratic sound system!) this year.
This all means that we
would welcome and appreciate any new financial
contribution you could make towards this
effort today. If you are able,
please send your check (online donations
are no longer being accepted), payable to
B-CC Theater Arts and mail to: B-CC Theater
Arts, 4301 East-West Highway, Bethesda,
MD 20814.
THANK YOU!
