ACT-SO 2012 (Afro-Academic, Cultural Technological, Scientific Olympics) competition underway.  Details from Assistant Principal Bennie Green, below. 

   

ATTENTION FIRST SEMESTER CERAMICS STUDENTS:  You should pick up your work in the ceramics room by the end of school on Friday.  Mrs. Grove will be throwing away unclaimed work on Friday after school.   

   

THIS SATURDAY**RESERVE NOW** for the 2012 edition of the B-CC Music Department's annual CABARET, February 11th, 7:00 – 11:00 pm in the B-CC cafeteria.  See Stephanie Brown’s current mail of FEBRUARY 6th.

VOTE FOR GAME OF THE WEEK, details below. 

   

PENNIES FOR PATIENTS CAMPAIGN (which benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) is underway.  Collection boxes are in all 1st Period teachers’ classrooms.  Last year 26,000 schools participated raising $705,000, of which $4,300 was from B-CC HS.  The campaign will continue through March 2nd.  For more details see Mr. Gilmore’s e-mail.

ACT-SO 2012 – AFRO-ACADEMIC, CULTURAL TECHNOLOGICAL, SCIENTIFIC OLYMPICS COMPETITION:  

   

ATTENTION African-American B-CC Students:  This year’s ACT-SO program is now underway through The Montgomery County Chapter of the NAACP, in partnership with Montgomery College and Montgomery County Public Schools.   The program is designed to encourage, develop, and recognize high academic and artistic excellence among all African-American students.  Applications may be found in the Main Office or in the Counseling Department.  

   

All participating students need to turn in your completed ACT-SO two-page application to Assistant Principal Bennie Green, NO LATER than March 23rd.  He will mail all of the completed applications.  For further information on the program, go to:    http://cms.montgomerycollege.edu/EDU/Department2.aspx?id=8614

SSL INFORMATION - February 2012

Consider getting involved in service on President’s Day, February 20th, and the “Early Release” day on March 2nd.   

   

Local, state, and national elections provide opportunities for students to be involved in the political process.  Political organizations and opportunities identified with a graduation cap icon  on the web site www.mcpsssl.org are approved for SSL.  Any service provided to an individual running for public office requires MCPS Form 560-50, Request for SSL Preapproval granted in advance.  

   

Remember:  SSL is a graduation requirement.  SSL along with all other requirements must be met for a high school diploma to be awarded.

CLASS OF 2014’S CANDY GRAM DRIVE: 

  

Valentine's Day is coming up!  Send something sweet to someone special.  Buy a candy gram in Room C213 or in the atrium at lunch TODAY, February 8th, through the 10th!  Be sure to know your valentine's 6th Period teacher. 

   

FOX 5 GAME OF THE WEEK FOR FEBRUARY 10, 2012: 

  

You can vote for Game of the Week online or on your mobile phones beginning this Friday afternoon once the matchups are posted.  Just text your choice to 29473.  Text the game number match-up or your school's name to 29473.  You can vote for FOX 5's Game of the Week 3 times per hour until voting ends. 

   

THE ANNUAL HBCU FAIR – COMING SOON: 

   

Montgomery Blair High School will host the annual MCPS HBCU College Fair on Wednesday, February 15th, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  The fair is open to all MCPS students in grades 9-12.  Over 60 schools will be represented. 

   

FOR SENIORS, many colleges will hold on-site admission interviews, application fees will be waived, and scholarships will be offered.  Seniors who intend to interview on the spot should start to prepare NOW.  You must bring an official transcript, two recommendation letters, the college’s completed application including essay and a copy of SAT or ACT scores.  Seniors who want help with applications and/or essays should visit the College and Career Center at lunchtime or after school.

MID-YEAR GRADES DIRECTIONS: 

   

Seniors:  We will be able to send mid-year transcripts electronically by the middle of February.  Please complete the green “request for mid-year report” form to list the colleges to which you want a mid-year transcript sent.  Please DO NOT send emails to the counseling staff requesting your mid-year grades. We will only accept the green mid-year request form that is on our web site or in the counseling suite.  Complete this form and bring it to Ms. Peebles (Registrar) in Counseling. 

   

If you need mid-year grades mailed, please bring in a business sized/stamped addressed envelope for each school.

ELECTIVES FAIR – TODAY, FEBRUARY 8TH: 

   

TODAY, February 8, our 9th, 10th and 11th graders are invited to an electives fair at lunchtime in the attendance atrium. The objective of the fair is to share information on AP and IB courses not specifically required for graduation – although many of these courses can fulfill distribution requirements such as fine arts or science. Teachers will be available to answer questions about classes and provide syllabi.
