The Gazette's review of the year in sports has this to say about the Barons: "The Bethesda-Chevy Chase girls soccer team was even more breathtaking, finishing 17-0 and capturing the Class 3A state title. But here's what was really astounding about the Barons: They outscored opponents 88-5 on the season, led by the 26 goals from the school's all-time leading goal-scorer, Hannah Cooper. Only three of their victories weren't acquired in shutout fashion, and they ended the fall ranked 20th among public and private schools by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America."

Congratulations to Hannah Cooper, who was named Player of the Year by the Post's Montgomery Extra! Coach Rob Kurtz was named Coach of the Year. She helped lead the Barons (17-0) to a Maryland 3A title and has committed to Amherst." Alex Doll was also named to the All-Extra first team.

The B-CC All-Sports Boosters purchase a silver engraved star for the student-athlete that the coach has designated as the example of sportsmanship on his/her team. It is given not only for hard work and personal improvement, but also for a willingness to understand, to learn, to enter into a partnership with the coaches and teammates in an effort to recognize one’s full potential. At the same time, this person has taken an individual sport to its highest team level by consistently placing personal goals subordinate to the team’s needs and goals. The 2008 winner is Francie Jaffe. The winner on the junior varsity is Brenna McManus.

B-CC had the top-ranked public school team in the region, according to The Washington Post. The Post's final Top 10 list put the Barons at #3, behind only St. John's and Archbishop Spalding, two Catholic high schools. The Barons outscored their 17 opponents, 88-5. Fourteen games were shutouts.
In the final poll by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, B-CC moved up to No. 4 among all teams (and was the top public school) in Region IV, which includes MD, VA, DC, WV, TN, and KY. The Barons were ranked No. 20 nationally.
The win over Sherwood completed the Barons' 12-0 regular season campaign. B-CC won the 3A/2A/1A East Division title for 2008 with a 5-0 record. The Barons won the "battle of Bethesda" by beating Whitman, 2-0 - photos and video highlights on line.
The brackets for the 3A state tournament seeded B-CC No. 1 in the Western region. The Barons had a first-round bye, defeated Tuscarora in the quarterfinals, and beat #4 seed Seneca Valley in the semifinals. B-CC then became 3A West regional champion with a come-from-behind win over Urbana in the regional finals. In the state semifinals B-CC knocked off 3A North champ Hereford.
