Future Barons? JV basketball coach Mark Karver is leading a Fast Break basketball camp at B-CC this summer for boys and girls entering 2nd through 8th grades. There are three one-week sessions: June 16-20; June 23-27; and July 21-25. For a registration form or more information, click here.

B-CC's 6-4 senior guard Austin Cooley was named to The Washington Post's All-Met first team in boys basketball. Austin was also named to the All-League team for Montgomery 3A/2A/1A for the second straight year.

Austin was named All-Extra Player of the Year, with the comment: "Returned from a broken hand in midseason and almost single-handedly led the Barons to their third Maryland 3A West title in his career. With long arms and terrific ball-handling skills, he presented matchup problems in both the half court and open court. Averaged 16.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists -- all team highs."

Austin also represented the Barons on the Suburban All-Stars in the 2008 Capital Classic at the Comcast Center, scoring 16 points. He was featured in the Gazette.

The B-CC All-Sports Boosters purchase a silver engraved star for the student-athlete that the coach has designated as the example of sportsmanship on his/her team. It is given not only for hard work and personal improvement, but also for a willingness to understand, to learn, to enter into a partnership with the coaches and teammates in an effort to recognize one’s full potential. At the same time, this person has taken an individual sport to its highest team level by consistently placing personal goals subordinate to the team’s needs and goals. The 2007-08 winner for varsity basketball was Tyler Henry.

In other post-season honors, Austin Cooley was named to the All-Gazette first team with the following comment: "Averaging 18.3 ppg, led team to third state tournament in four-year career, posting team-highs in four categories in state semi." Senior guard Jordan Wheeler and junior swingman Nate Koenig earned honorable mentions. Congratulations, Barons!

Austin Cooley showed some moves and scored some key baskets to help his team win the Montgomery County boys basketball Senior All-Star Game on March 19, as reported in the Gazette.

B-CC's season came to an end Thursday at the Comcast Center, as Largo proved too much to handle in the state semifinals. The Barons became the 3A West regional champions on Saturday, defeating Tuscarora, 86-71, for their eighth straight victory. B-CC, seeded third in the region, got a first-round bye and beat Urbana in the quarterfinals and Damascus in the semifinals to advance. The Barons were ranked No. 20 in the region by The Washington Post.

Congratulations, Barons!
