Summer School 2008
MCPS 2008 High School Regional Summer School Program
Session 1: Thurs., June 26 –
Thurs., July 17 (no school on July 3 or 4)
Session 2: Tues., July 22 – Fri.,
Aug. 8
Class Schedule: 8:10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. daily
Graduation: Thurs., Aug. 14, 2pm, (rehearsal
- Tues. Aug. 12, 2pm) John F. Kennedy High School Auditorium
Class attendance is mandatory for those registered in the
high school program or students will subject to loss of
credit.
The 2008 Regional Summer School brochures with course
offerings, applications, and information on how to register
are now available at the guidance departments of all schools.
The brochure and applications are also available on the

Summer School website. Registration begins
on May 19, 2008. Please check that website
for updates on information regarding summer school for 2008.

Summer Local School Programs:
Many MCPS schools will be offering Local School Programs
(LSPs) for their own students during the summer. Before
registering in the regional program, you may wish to check
first with your student’s home school to see if they
will offer the class you wish to take.
The LSPs operate independently of the Regional Summer
School Program. Questions regarding the LSPs should be directed
to individual schools.

B-CC Summer Health Classes
for students who have completed the ninth grade.

Registrations will begin on Thursday, April
24. Forms are available online on the MCPS
website, or in the Guidance Office. Bring the
completed form and a check for $310, made out to MCPS,

Summer Student Online Learning (SOL)
MCPS Student Online Learning (SOL) program offers students
the opportunities to obtain high school credit outside the
regular school day through Internet-based courses. Every
MCPS online course requires a limited number of face-to-
face sessions. Students must attend these face-to-face sessions
to receive credit for the course.
For summer 2008, MCPS is offering three sessions of Comprehensive
Health and Wellness (a 3-week 0.5 credit course
requiring two face-to-face sessions) and one session of
Foundations of Technology (a 6-week 1.0
credit course requiring 3 face-to-face lab sessions.)
B-CC is one of the meeting sites for the Comprehensive
Health and Wellness online course.
Registration opens May 1, 2008. These Internet-based courses
have different registration deadlines and fees from the
regular summer courses. For more information, please go

All students must plan their summer school
courses through the guidance department of their home school
and obtain the signature of the home school principal (or
designee).

Students must fill out a separate
registration form and send a separate payment for each class
they wish to take. Full payment of tuition is required for
all students at the time of registration.
PLEASE NOTE: Summer School enrollment for 2008 is limited.
Classes fill quickly. Register early to avoid disappointment.

to your home only if you provide the summer
school teacher with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
Ride on bus service is available to the summer high schools
sites. Ride On Summer Youth Cruiser Pass
(June 1 through Aug. 31 for ONLY $15) application can

The summer offers many opportunities for students to learn
about a career, gain in-depth understanding of a subject,

Summer Opportunities for High School Students webpage.
The MCPS Summer Search Program is an enrichment experience
for students at all grade levels, providing them an opportunity
to participate in a variety of educational summer programs,
including some unique internships. The booklet, Summer
Search: Expanding Educational Horizons, published every
year by the Division of Family and Community Partnerships,
offers a wide range of opportunities to students to expand
their horizons and to be exposed to new experiences. It
is available in MCPS schools and libraries in Montgomery

SAT Prep Classes, Summer 2008 (do not
confuse with SAT Prep Online)
This 8-day 32-hour course, offered to MCPS students by Montgomery
College, is intended to strengthen test-taking skills in
order to increase scores. Participants will take, score,
and analyze answers of SAT tests that have been given in
past years. Students also will learn proven test strategies
and how to manage time, improve speed, and reduce stress.
The cost for the course is $260 for Maryland residents and
$400 for non-residents.
