Born in Delaware and spending parts of her childhood in Chicago
and Detroit, Patty Parmelee moved to Bethesda immediately prior
to 9th grade and attended Walter Johnson High School, which at that
time was adjacent to a cow pasture instead of I-270.
After earning a BA in Education from Michigan State University,
she taught middle school for 10 years in Florida, Texas and Wisconsin
and wrote curriculum in Madison, Wisconsin during the summer months.
A move to Seattle (yes, this is a woman following a husband's career),
the birth of a child, and another move to Germany (where she took
graduate classes at the Heidelberg "campus" of the University
of Maryland) interrupted her teaching until her return to Bethesda
in 1986, this time to Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School as a Composition
Assistant.
Patty Parmelee knows a good thing when she sees it: The Bethesda-Chevy
Chase English Department offers one of the best jobs in town with
THE best people in town. The position of Composition Assistant is
definitely one of the best buys for a buck in the MCPS system. Working
with the students during the writing process is the best way to
teach. Composition Assistants at BCC team with teachers during writing
assignments to provide students with one-on-one help to develop
and structure their ideas.
Out of school, she is active in her two children's lives, tries
to keep life desirable for her aging mother, enjoys physical activities,
loves to travel and maintains wonderful friendships.
