We
do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep
inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our
trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves
we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any
experience what reveals the human spirit. ~ ee cummings
Before joining the staff of B-CC in 1999, Ms. Beyer traveled
extensively: she hiked the trails of the Lake District in
England, meandered through castle and countryside in Scotland,
marvelled at the Great Wall of China, traversed the whole
of Australia, sat upon a smelly camel at the base of the
Great Pyramids of Egypt, risked her life riding the cable
car in Tblisi, rafted down the Grand Canyon River, poked
around old Jerusalem, drank tea with the Bedouins of Jordan,
and drove across India in a Model T Ford. She decided it
was time to "get a real life" and now invests
much of her energy working with the inspiring and dedicated
students and staff of B-CC. She also finds time for outings
with her dynamic dog, Kyra; practices yoga; writes; and
works on those never-ending home improvement projects.
Ms. Beyer has a Master of Arts degree in English Curriculum
and Instruction from the University of Maryland at College
Park and has completed her Master’s course work in
English Literature and Language. She earned both of her
undergraduate degrees from UMCP as well – a Bachelor
of Arts in English, with a concentration in British and
American Literature, and a B.A. in Secondary English Education.
She continues her study of language, literature, and pedagogy
through research, workshops, classes, and hands-on experience.
There's no such thing as a weird human being. It's just
that some people require more understanding than others.
