Modern World by R. Palmer and J. Colton Course of StudyEuropean History 1500-1799
The first semester is the first of four semesters of IB European History. It will prepare students to complete the IB History examination which will be given during the fourth semester of the course. By the end of the first semester IB students will have studied the political, diplomatic, intellectual, economic, cultural, social and historical forces that have shaped European History. ObjectivesStudents will be expected to: -analyze primary and secondary source documents -synthesize and draw conclusions from historical evidence -Read and interpret a variety of texts -Listen attentively -Discuss effectively -Ask pertinent thoughtful questions -Write critical, analytical and thematic essays -Lead seminar discussions -Use maps graphs and other data to make inferences -Conduct research Homework1) Homework will be assigned on a regular basis Make-up Work 1) It is your responsibility to make up all missed
work Grading1) Your grade will be determined as follows: 2) Final grades will be determined as follows: ReassessmentsThe following procedures will be used and apply only to reading checks: 1. Students will need to attend a 45-minute reteach session at lunch or after school immediately following the return of an assessment. Please note--student needs to bring lunch because the session does not allow for time to go pick up lunch. 2. The retest will occur at lunch or after school on the Friday immediately following the reteach session and will be a short answer test. This will be the only opportunity for a reassessment. 3. Reteach sessions will include reading and taking notes on the same material in a different textbook (Winks) as well as one-on-one tutoring by Mrs. Ainsworth or Mr. Herner. Students will be expected to bring completed activities and notes on the original assignment on the day of the reassessment. All notes must be handwritten. 4. Unit tests will not be reassessed.
