Course Credit:  IB Diploma or Certificate
Community Service:  As arranged with instructors
Prerequisite:  Open enrollment
Requirements:  Enrollment in classroom ensemble as chosen by the instructor.  Seminar classes Monday through Thursday, 2:15 – 3:00 P.M.  Private lessons on chosen instrument and/or voice for four semesters.
Course Fee:  Approximately $20.00 (Fee will be determined when books arrive) for 1st year students only, no fee for second year students (Workbooks are used for both years)

Course Outline:
This course provides students the opportunity to explore and enjoy the diversity of music throughout the world.  Students are encouraged to develop perceptual skills through a breadth of musical experiences, where they will learn to recognize, speculate, analyze, identify, discriminate and hypothesize in relation to music.  Opportunities are afforded students to creatively develop their knowledge, abilities and understanding through performances and composition.  Finally, IB Music strives to assist students in developing their potential as musicians both personally and collaboratively, in whatever capacity, to the fullest.

Course Outcomes:
The student will be able to:

  1. demonstrate development of their performance skills through solo and  

      ensemble music making.

    • demonstrate development of their compositional skills through exploration and investigation of musical elements
    • demonstrate use of appropriate musical language and terminology to describe and reflect their critical understanding of music.
    • demonstrate development of perceptual skills in response to music.
    • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of music in relation to time and place.
