About Accreditation for Growth

AFG requires the school to establish objectives for improving student performance based on a vision of a preferred future for the school. To be accredited by the Commission on Secondary Schools, a school must meet the Middle States Association’s standards for each major area of a school’s work and activity. These areas include the school’s philosophy/mission/beliefs/objectives, governance and leadership, organizational design and staff, educational programs, learning media services and technology, student services, student life and activities, facilities, health and safety, finances, assessment of student learning, and planning.

The decision to re-accredit B-CC will be made following a three and one-half day visit to the school in November 2008 by a visiting team of educators from member schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. During the visit, the Middle States team will meet with and interview representatives of the school’s stakeholders, including teachers, students, parents, and administrators, as well as representatives of MCPS.

The Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools will accept comments from those with first-hand information regarding B-CC’s ability to meet the Middle States Standards for Accreditation, and that these comments will be considered in the course of the evaluation. The Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools’ Standards for Accreditation can be viewed at the following site:
http://www.css-msa.org/pdfs/Standards_for_Schools_with_Indicators.pdf

To be considered, comments must be in writing, include the printed name, address, and telephone number of the writer, and must be signed by the writer. Anonymous comments will not be considered. Comments must be received not later than 30 days prior to the first day of the visit by the Evaluation Team and must be mailed to:
