Media Center

The Barnsley Media Center is your place.  We hope that you will enjoy coming in to browse, choose books, listen to stories or work on research

Schedule 

The media center is open every school day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m..  There is an open book exchange (when you can come in on your own to check out books) from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m.  Check with your teacher before you come to the media center and get a pass  

Circulation 

  • Students in kindergarten and first grade may check out one book. Second and third graders may check out two books.  Fourth and fifth grade students may check out three books.  You are responsible for taking good care of the books and returning them on time.  If a book is lost, the media center will have to ask you to pay for it. 
  • Books are checked out for TWO WEEKS.  
  • Reference books remain in the media center for everyone’s use.  They may be checked out for one night with the permission of the media staff. 

Media Center Behavior 

The one behavior rule in the media center is to BE POLITE.  Some examples of polite behavior are: 

  • Using  a LIBRARY voice (a quiet voice) at all times.  
  • Pushing in your chairs when you leave the media center and cleaning up all trash.  
  • BEING RESPECTFUL of the materials and to each other when using the media center.

Remember, when you are gathering information from a book, magazine, a  program on the computer or from the Internet, the words belong to the author. YOU MUST PUT THE INFORMATION INTO YOUR OWN WORDS!
