Counseling at Barnsley 

The mission of the counseling program at Barnsley is to facilitate the academic success and social-emotional growth of students. As the School Counselor, I work with all students helping them to develop academic, personal and interpersonal skills and promoting healthy development and career awareness. Some of the ways this is achieved are through classroom lessons, small group settings, and individual counseling. I collaborate with the administration, staff, students, and parents in order to provide a proactive, preventative and all-inclusive program.

Second Step Curriculum

In further support of our Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support program, we will be teaching the Committee for Children’s Second Step curriculum. Second Step is a research based program which integrates learning about social and emotional skills such as empathy, emotion management, and problem solving with academics. Every class will receive bi-weekly lessons from the Second Step curriculum. It is our hope that as the program progresses and students learn more about empathy, emotion management, and appropriate problem solving strategies, our school will fulfill our commitment to maintaining a respectful, peaceful, and positive learning environment.

Lunch Bunch

I eat lunch every day with small groups of students in my office in order to get to know them better, build relationships, and discuss any issues that may come up. Sometimes we solve problems together, and sometimes we just have a fun and relaxed lunch. It is my goal to have lunch with all of our students at least once during the school year.
