Bannockburn Elementary School
Character Education Program
Program Overview
Welcome to Bannockburn’s Character Education program! Through our activities this year, we hope to help our principal, teachers and staff foster a positive, caring schoolwide climate that encourages kind and respectful interactions among students, faculty, staff and parents.
All of the elementary schools in the Whitman Cluster focus on the same value each month, supporting each other’s efforts and ensuring that all students will have had similar exposure to character education by the time they come together in middle school. The values that Bannockburn shares with other Whitman cluster schools are:
Respect Responsibility Fairness Moral Courage Caring/Empathy Homesty Cooperation
Each month, we choose one of our school values to celebrate [Schedule of Values – link to Value Chart page]. As the year goes on, watch for:
Changes in our bulletin board in the front hall, designed by students in a different grade to highlight each month’s value;
Connections to our Community Service Events;
Quarterly assemblies, featuring Adventure Theatre performances, as well as student songs, dances, and skits (parents welcome!);
Book displays in the media center.
We would welcome your help on the committee, too! Please let us know if you are interested. Meetings are monthly, spirited and productive. Check the Character Education Committee page below for more details.
Warm regards,
Ms. Elizabeth Whiting, School Counselor, and the Character Education Committee
