November 2009

 Dear Parents,

We are beginning our second marking period.  As we kickoff the second quarter, we will be having first quarter parent/teacher conferences which are scheduled for November 11th and 12th.  Many parents have already scheduled their conference data and time with their child’s teacher.  If you have not received a parent conference date and time, please contact your child’s teacher.

We would like to thank our wonderful Bannockburn parents and the PTA for providing staff with wonderful and delicious breakfasts and lunches during the first quarter.  The staff recently enjoyed a wonderful breakfast catered by PTA parents this past Monday.  It was a wonderful way to start our day and we appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness!  In addition, we would like to thank all parents who were able to attend the Halloween festivities and we would also like to thank all room parents who organized and planned the classroom parties.  Also, a special thank you to our Community Service Committee and all of our fabulous Bannockburn students and families for participating and contributing to great causes.  We were able to provide around 300 lunches during our Lunch Project for a men’s emergency center.  During the first week of November, we are collecting unwanted Halloween candy for “Treats for the Troops”.

As we do every month, we have many things going on at Bannockburn Elementary.  On Thursday, November 5th, students will enjoy a PTA sponsored cultural arts assembly on Native Pride Dancers which include American Indian dance, drum and song.

On Friday, November 6th, students will have their individual pictures taken at school by Blanton Studios.  Order forms are in in the Wednesday envelopes.  The options for ordering include pre-paying for your portrait package on picture day or place your order after the fact with a proof.  The Scholastic Bookfair is returning to the Bannockburn gym.  The Bookfair will be held from Tuesday November 10 through Thursday, November 12th.  The Bookfair is a great way for students and parents to find new additions to your home libraries or make a purchase for your child’s classroom teacher.  A portion of the proceeds from the Bookfair will go to the Bannockburn PTA.  A special thank you to the PTA committee for organizing this great event.  Also on Thursday, November 12th will be Craft Night from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  We will have Early Release Days on Wednesday, November 11th and Thursday, November 12th.  Dismissal begins at 1:00 p.m.  Parent-teacher conferences will be held in the afternoon on both of these dates for parents to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss academic progress during the first marking period.  Report cards will be sent home during this timeframe.

If you have any questions, please contact me. I wish you and your children a safe and healthy month and a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family!
