Community Service
Every year Bannockburn students have the opportunity to participate in Community Service projects. Working with teachers, parents and volunteers, students gain a greater awareness of the community they live in. In return, their activities make a meaningful contribution to the surrounding community.

Community Service Projects
September 18, 2007: Poster making during recess to raise awareness for homeless
October 26, 2007: Sandwich making during recess for Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless (MCCH)
November 5-13, 2007: Kids Helping Kids food drive for Manna, Montgomery County Food Bank
November 9, 2007: Craft night community service project for the Children's Inn at NIH.
December 2008: Toiletries drive for Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless
January 14-18, 2008: Pennies for Patients
February 2008: Jump Rope for Heart
March, 2008: Community Scrap Metal Recycling Challenge
Cabin John (which will include BES) and Carderock Springs (which will include Carderock Springs ES) are partnering with the Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services in a challenge to see which neighborhood can collect the most large and small scrap metals. The County will weigh all metals collected in both neighborhoods at the end of the official collection dates - March 1-April 18.
Small scrap metal recycling collection will be conducted by students at Bannockburn Elementary March 10-14.
April 2008: Winter coat drive
May 2008: Recycle awareness week with tips for helping the environment by recycling
June 2008: Drive For Supplies—MCPS surplus and used school supply drive
