Autism Walk


Baker Middle School had their first fundraiser for Autism Research from October 8-18. We were proud to present $3,300 to the Autism Speaks/Cure Autism Now Walk in Washington D.C. on October 20th. Baker was represented by the following team members in Washington: Patty Sullivan, Adam Sullivan, Tammy Sharp, David Sharp, Daniel Sharp, Linda McGinnis, Richard McGinnis, Don Wingo, Erica Ray and Marc Aguirre. On Thursday, October 18th, those who participated in the fundraiser, joined Mr. Hoff and the SCB staff for an outdoor walk on school grounds, followed by an ice cream and pizza party. A special thank you to Mrs. Worthington for joining us at the beginning of the walk and to Mr. Hoff, Mrs. McGinnis, Mr. Bozicevichs, Miss Merson, Mrs. Tominosky, Miss Anderson and Adam Sullivan for assisting in the details of the celebration. The top fundraiser and winner of the Wii System was Kyle Demmerle, who raised an outstanding $665.00 for our cause. The following students should also be commended for their hard work:Daniel Sharp-$455.00; Benjamin Lopez- $350.00; Richard McGinnis- $340.00; Trent Cope- $190.00; Shelby Stephen- $167.00; Max Turner- $150.00; Ashley Cohen- $140.00 and Max Wingo-$125.00. Everyone who participated should know that their efforts and contributions were greatly appreciated. Our thanks goes out to Papa John's Pizza of Damascus for sponsoring pizza prizes and donating the pizza for our grand finale celebration. We also extend a thank you to the following Damascus businesses who contributed to our fundraiser; Curves, The Hair Cuttery, Safeway and Beall's Florist, along with Philbin's Gym (Shady Grove), Lone Star Restaurant (Frederick) and Safeway (Mt. Airy).
