Manna Food Center Needs Volunteers -- Earn SSL Hours

Manna is desperately in need of volunteers to help at our upcoming county-wide food drives.  With the help of over 500 volunteers all across the county, we collected over 43,000 pounds of food over the MLK weekend this past January.  With your help, we can do this again so our shelves can be well stocked for the summer months ahead.

Location:  Montgomery County Giant Food Stores

We are looking for individuals or groups who can "adopt" a Giant store to help collect food donations.

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Enlist your faith based organization, business, civic organization, sports team, scouting troop, school club or family & friends to come out and help the hungry! Hours will count for Student Service Learning, SSL.

Butterfly Exhibit Volunteer - Brookside Gardens

Brookside Gardens hosts an incredible live butterfly exhibit for several months each year in our conservatory. Included are a number of North American, South American and Asian species in all stages of development and their associated host plants.

Volunteer positions available in the show include: Ticket Taker, Flight Attendant, and Tour Guides. Information Specialists are stationed just outside the exhibit and are responsible for greeting visitors and collecting tickets, introducing visitors to the exhibit rules, and coordinating exhibit entry. Flight Attendants are stationed inside the exhibit and enforce the exhibit rules and show off exhibit highlights. Tour guides take small groups on guided informative walks through the exhibit.
You will be matched with an assignment after talking with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Additional Information

The exhibit runs from May 1 through September 19. We ask volunteers to serve for at least 5 shifts over the course of the exhibit. Each volunteer position has specific requirements, but training is provided for all positions. Student service hours are available.
