Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program


WVWC - West Virginia Wesleyan College Summer Gifted Program

The West Virginia Wesleyan Summer Gifted Program has been held since 1983. It is committed to fostering the development of gifted adolescents in the quantitative, verbal and social areas. The teachers are all college professors who possess special interest in gifted children. Classes are fast-paced and accelerated. Creativity, the ultimate expression of giftedness, is emphasized directly and indirectly in the program. Dates for the program are June 19 through July 2, 2011. Maryland Summer Centers for Gifted & Talented Students

Summer programs in the Fine and Performing Arts, Environmental Science, Law and Government, Technology, World Languages, Mathematics, Geology, Physics, Archeology, Space Science, and Engineering offered in locations throughout the state of Maryland. Application deadlines are April 15, 2009 (art programs may be earlier in case of auditions) and there is financial assistance available. Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth Summer Programs 2011

Students who need an academic challenge and want to study a subject they can’t find during the school year should apply to one of CTY’s summer programs. During a three week session, students take one course and receive individualized attention during a fast paced class. This residential program allows for students to have personal as well as academic growth. There are residential programs for grades 7 and above, as well as a young scholars program for 2nd-6th graders (residential and day programs). Upward Bound Pre-College Program

The Upward Bound Program provides academic and career counseling to students toward the goals of admission to and graduation from four-year post-secondary institutions. The Upward Bound Program supplements its participants’ secondary school experiences by creating opportunities for students to gain self-esteem by enhancing their academic and social skills. There is a summer program and Saturday program at University of Maryland. Students planning on attending Wheaton or Northwood high schools may apply in their 8th grade year of school. Students should be first generation student to attend college and/or demonstrate financial need.

Jack Kent Cook Young Scholars Program

The Jack Kent Cook Foundation helps exceptional students reach their full potential through education. Through scholarships and grants the foundation helps hundreds of students. Students should apply to the Scholars program in their 7th grade year of school.
