Interested in Poetry?
Take part in Shakespeare's Sisters: Five Centuries of Poetry by Women a 10 week seminar at the Folger Shakespears Library and meet a diverse group of poetry lovers in grades 10-12 from across the DC area. January 13-March 17, 2010, Wednesdays, 4-6pm, FREE(upon acceptance of application). Read and discuss poems by British and American women poets from the mid-16th century to the present and write and share poems of your own. The CSIS Commission on Smart Global Health is seeking essay submissions, in 500-800 words by midnight, November 20, 2009, that answer the following question:
"What is the most important thing the U.S. can do to improve global
health over the next 15 years?"
We are looking for fresh, innovative approaches to global health
problems. The author of the winning essay will receive a $1,000
scholarship with a chance to be published in the Commission's final

2009-2010 Being an American Essay Contest NOW OPEN!
The largest high school essay contests in the country is back, asking students to answer the question, "What civic value do you believe is most essential to being an American?" 2010 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest
The JFK Library Foundation invites US high school students to write an original essay on the political courage of a US elected official. The first place winner receives $10,000. In addition they will receive an expense-paid trip to Boston to meet Caroline Kennedy and tour the library.
