A Record of Success

Benefits

Ruth Rales Comcast Kids Reading Network schools realize measurable results:

  • Increased student achievement
  • Improved student motivation and confidence
  • Improved student attendance

On average, the Reading Together™ program has an 87.5 percent rate of success with both tutors and student tutees. Tutees show at least one year’s growth at program completion. Tutoring not only raises academic mastery, but also provides benefits that are not available in the general classroom environment.

Volunteer tutors benefit from:

  • A sense of pride and accomplishment for having helped a child improve his or her reading skills.
  • Improved organizational and leadership skills.
  • The rewards of giving to the school and community.

Student tutees benefit from:

  • Individual one-on-one instruction
  • Immediate, frequent praise, feedback, and encouragement
  • Continuous monitoring to maximize time on task
  • Modeling of effective reading strategies
  • Enhancement of oral and written language skills
  • Opportunity to establish a trusting relationship with an older peer or adult
  Tutor and student

It makes me feel happy to see the smile of my student when she is reading.
