Security Measures Ongoing as Classes Open on Fri., Oct. 11

October 10, 2002
Continuing decisions about Montgomery County Public Schools operations, student activities, and the public use of school facilities will be made on a day-to-day basis, with possible changes during the day, as events unfold.

School system staff, students, parents, and the community are asked to remain patient and flexible in order to allow the school system the maximum ability to respond correctly to changing circumstances.

Consistent with ongoing security measures, all schools will open on time on Friday, October 11, but there will be no outdoor recess, outdoor physical education, open lunch for high school students, or field trips in the Washington area. All kindergarten classes will be held as scheduled.

Schools will continue to keep exterior doors locked and monitor visitors, but schools will not operate on a Code Blue, unless otherwise indicated.

Students who are in the Fundamental Life Skills programs in special education will not be able to participate in community activities and will remain at school.

Other programs involving out-of-school instruction, such as internships, Cooperative Work Experience/On the Job Training, JROTC, and the Thomas Edison High School of Technology, will operate as scheduled.

All indoor instructional programs, involving the transportation of students to other centers and facilities will be held, as scheduled.

A decision on afternoon student extracurricular and athletic activities and public use of school facilities for tomorrow will be made by mid-day Friday.

Updates about decisions on school system operations are available on the school system's new Emergency Information website at the link below.
