New Summer Program Offers Needy Students an Academic Bridge

July 10, 2002
The new four-week "Summer Adventures in Learning" program begins on Monday, July 15, 2002, as more than 80 percent of the students enrolled in kindergarten through Grade 3 in the targeted elementary schools plan to participate. The unique summer initiative provides students with a half-day instructional program designed as an academic bridge in reading, mathematics, and language in preparation for the new school year. The students participating in the program attend the county's federally funded Title I schools, which represent the highest level of poverty in Montgomery County. Breakfast and lunch also are provided for eligible students.
