June 13, 2002
Dr. Robert L. Bastress, currently principal of Damascus High School, has been named the project manager of the new effort to develop a new professional growth system for administrative and supervisory personnel. The assignment was announced this week by Dr. Jerry D. Weast, superintendent of schools.

The new Workforce Excellence initiative will provide a comprehensive way of integrating new standards of performance and an evaluation system for principals and other administrative staff, along with support for underperforming and new administrators and recruitment programs for aspiring administrators. A broad-based steering committee of principals, other administrators, teachers, parents, students, and business leaders also will be involved in the program’s development and implementation.
